Water Tap

My husband always turns off the water to our house when we are going to be gone for more than a day or two. Is this necessary?

Is it necessary? No. Is it smart? Yes. If there is a leak in your home, turning the water off could prevent your house from flooding while you are gone and being able to catch it before it does too much damage. Leaks commonly occur in rubber washing machine hoses, dishwasher lines, water heaters, and nails in water lines inside walls corroding over time. I’ve seen finished nails in a water line corrode over 7 years, resulting in a house flood. It’s just cheap insurance.
