What’s the difference between a production home and custom home?

Floor Plan

Production Home

A production home is a home built with a similar style and floor plan to those of other houses in a development. The price is often the best selling point with production homes because of the volume of houses being built. Production home builders often purchase materials and contract for labor at reduced rates, and then pass on the savings to their customer. However, this comes with few options for the home buyers, and generally lower quality products.

Custom Home

A custom home is a home built to an individual customer’s specifications. This usually includes everything from lot choice to kitchen cabinet knobs and drawer pulls. Similar to buying a tailor-made suit, buyers of a custom home should expect to spend more.

Since buying a new home is typically the single largest purchase you will make in your lifetime, it is important to get a suit that fits you well and lasts a lifetime. The relationship with our customer is what makes building a home with Carolina Custom Homes and Renovations a unique and satisfying experience.
